A Gathering Storm
Look to the horizon -
Storm clouds are drawing in.
We rumble on,
Thunder claps gathering pace
A lightning flash;
And suddenly the heavens break.
Angry words start falling,
Hot raindrops
Hitting the ground with a hiss:
Another argument
Tearing through the humid air.
Spent, the storm abates again
Leaving us
Regretful in the chill breeze.

Notebook Poets
Furtive and hasty
Scratches across the page.
No time to linger, to dwell
To exactingly extract the perfect phrase
From a weighty tome – no.
Instead we grab and grasp
At half-remembered images,
Trying to pin down the ephemeral,
Ethereal
Before the flash is gone
And all is left is the sense
Of something we couldn’t quite
Remember.
